Synopsis

Mining is a primary activity in the economy of many Latin American countries, including Peru, where it represents around 10% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and constitutes 60% of total exports. However, despite the economic benefits it brings, mining also poses serious challenges in terms of the social and environmental impact it generates. This study focuses specifically on analyzing these impacts in the context of the operations of the company Minera Volcan S.A.A. in the Cerro de Pasco region, one of the main mining areas of Peru.
